The 49ers running back room might be the most important position group on their roster outside of quarterback. Their run-heavy offense thrives on a running-back-by-committee approach, and having a depth chart full of capable players at that spot will be paramount or San Francisco’s success this season.
They used two picks on running backs in this year’s draft, marking the first time since 2017 they used a selection on a running back, and the first time since 1992 they used two on the position in one draft. Those two picks joined an already quality group, and should add the depth the position lacked last year when injuries started piling up.
