After playing small role for Giants last season, can Harris earn a spot this time?
Hit by injuries at the edge position in 2020, Trent Harris was a natural player for the New York Giants to pick up. Harris had played 11 games for Patrick Graham with the Miami Dolphins in 2019, and was familiar with the defense Graham brought to East Rutherford.

An undrafted free agent out of Miami, Harris spent the 2018 season on the New England Patriots’ practice squad.
Waived by New England at the beginning of the 2019 season, Harris was claimed by the Miami Dolphins. He played in 11 games (three starts) and earned 253 defensive snaps (23 percent). He ended the year with 22 tackles (one for loss), 1.5 sacks and two quarterback hits.
The Dolphins let Graham come to New York to be Joe Judge’s defensive coordinator. That was the end in Miami for Harris, who was waived in July.
Harris was on and off the practice squad and active roster for the Giants throughout the 2020 season, was waived in December and signed to a reserve/futures contract in January.
2021 outlook
With draft picks Azeez Ojulari (Round 2) and Elerson Smith (Round 4) added to Lorenzo Carter, Ryan Anderson, Oshane Ximines, Ifeadi Odenigbo, Cam Brown and Niko Lalos there might not be room for Harris on the 53-man roster.
Harris seems to be an OK emergency fill-in. The 2021 Giants, though, appear to have plenty of higher-upside options.
