The New York Jets are set to officially complete the process of bringing Aaron Rodgers on board

When Aaron Rodgers‘ name was first floated as a possible New York Jets quarterback target, the most seemingly insurmountable issue was his contract.

The Green Bay Packers dealt with the problem by force, simply leaving the veteran minimum $1.165 million as Rodgers’ 2023 salary while dumping the remaining $107.55 million into 2024. This enabled the completion of the trade but also left some negotiations on the table between the Jets and Rodgers.

As first reported by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Rodgers and the Jets have verbally agreed on a reworked contract.

Florio reports, “Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Jets and Rodgers have worked out a deal to reconfigure a contract that was restructured when the Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets. The contract has been agreed to but not signed.”

Florio added that the details of the deal are not yet known, but reiterated the deal has been completed in principle and subject to signature.

This completes the last order of business in the saga to bring the future Hall of Famer to East Rutherford. While the trade terms themselves were far more complicated, Rodgers’ cap numbers left some uncertainty about the Jets’ cap situation. That situation is now cleared up, allowing Joe Douglas to make some depth moves, if necessary.

Jets X-Factor will have more on this story as the terms of the deal are released.
