New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will promote the psychedelic ayahuasca’s performance-boosting properties
It’s not a darkness retreat, but New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still mystifying the public with his alternative interests.
This time, Rodgers will speak at a Colorado psychedelics conference to extol the virtues of ayahuasca. He is known to use the psychedelic and promote its benefits.
According to the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, “Ayahuasca (pronounced ‘eye-ah-WAH-ska’) is a plant-based psychedelic. Psychedelics affect all the senses, altering a person’s thinking, sense of time, and emotions. They can cause a person to hallucinate—seeing or hearing things that do not exist or are distorted.”
Psychedelics were originally researched as possible mental health boosters but then outlawed in the 1960s and 1970s due to concerns about potential misuse and harm. However, in recent years, there has been much more permissiveness for psychedelics and more research done about their potential therapeutic properties. Still, they are officially illegal at the federal level due to concerns about recreational use.
Rodgers is scheduled to speak about how ayahuasca can boost performance. He attributed his back-to-back MVPs in 2020-21 to his use of the substance. He spoke about its properties many times on The Pat McAfee Show, discussing how it increased his self-love and how it helped him connect better with his teammates.
Rodgers’ use of ayahuasca makes him somewhat of an unusual figure on the football landscape. For media members who personally dislike Rodgers, this is yet another sign of his perfidy. To Jets fans, though, it’s mostly just one of the quirks that they’ll tolerate in the quest for a championship.
