Chuck Clark’s film reveals his ideal role in the New York Jets’ defense

It’s no secret that the safety position was a glaring weakness for the New York Jets during the 2022 season.

Lamarcus Joyner and Jordan Whitehead were extremely inconsistent as both tacklers in the box and in coverage on the back end, leading to the pair giving up big plays far too often.

The full, member-only Chuck Clark film breakdown (1:14:00 in length) can be found at the bottom of this article (must be a Jets X-Factor member and logged into the site).

Going into the 2023 offseason with Whitehead as the penciled-in starting SS and Joyner as a free agent, it was clear that the position needed to be addressed.

A few days before the new league year officially kicked off, the Jets sent a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Ravens for Chuck Clark, a 28-year-old veteran safety with 63 career starts in Baltimore.

Clark managed to play every snap for the Ravens’ defense in 2022 despite the team signing Marcus Williams to a big contract in free agency and drafting Kyle Hamilton in the first round. However, frustrated with his role on the team, Clark asked for a trade during the season and got his wish after the year.

Clark offers versatility as he played all over the field for the Ravens. But which role suits Clark the best? Can the Jets trust him to play deep, or should he be confined to the box?

These questions and many more are answered on this edition of Blewett’s Blitz.

  • How did Clark sustain his role as a starter in Baltimore?
  • What strengths does he offer as a veteran safety?
  • In what areas does Clark struggle?
  • Should Jets fans expect Clark to be an upgrade?
  • What is Clark’s ideal role?

Plus, a list of Clark’s strengths and weaknesses can be seen at the bottom of this article!
