By pursuing Allen Lazard, the New York Jets are signaling that they are close to another soon-to-be ex-Packers player

In a market desperate for Aaron Rodgers clues, another one just dropped.

The New York Jets are reportedly hot in pursuit of Allen Lazard, Rodgers’s former No. 1 target in Green Bay.

It’s not Nathaniel Hackett who will draw Jets fans’ minds when they hear the name Lazard, though. Rodgers was reported to be recruiting free agents to join him in New York, and Lazard had stated he wanted to know Rodgers’s plans as part of his decision.

The Jets and their fans still anxiously await confirmation from No. 12 ever since Trey Wingo reported yesterday that a deal was done. Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, nothing is finalized, but signs appear to be pointing toward a possible deal today.

Meanwhile, a Lazard signing would clearly signal the end of Corey Davis’s time in New York. Davis is in the final year of his contract at an affordable $11.2 million cap hit, but New York appears to be looking for a more durable Z receiver.

This is the first move the Jets are making to bring in a free agent from a different team. So far, the team has traded for Chuck Clark and re-signed Quincy Williams and Greg Zuerlein, but other moves are likely imminent if they do, indeed, land Rodgers.
