New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh is not committing to Zach Wilson at quarterback vs. Chicago Bears

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke to the media on Monday afternoon following the team’s disappointing 10-3 loss to the New England Patriots. Saleh did not come out to speak to the media until over an hour after his scheduled time, citing “personal things with the staff” as the reason for his tardiness.

Obviously, the main headline for Saleh would be the team’s quarterback situation. Saleh was pressed about the status of Zach Wilson but declined to commit to Wilson as the team’s starter. Instead, Saleh said the Jets are “keeping everything on the table.”

Saleh added that the Jets “have to look at what’s best for this organization and team.”

The Jets’ backup quarterback is Mike White. Joe Flacco entered the season as New York’s backup quarterback and started the first three games in place of Wilson during his absence due to a knee injury, but the Jets upgraded White to the backup role ahead of Week 8, demoting Flacco to the third-string spot.

Saleh also provided his thoughts on Wilson’s controversial postgame comments. He mostly defended Wilson but also said Wilson can be better “in front of [the media]”.

Saleh also said that wide receiver Corey Davis is day-to-day with his knee injury.

New York will play host to the 3-8 Chicago Bears on Sunday. The Jets own a 6-4 record but are now on the outside of the AFC playoff picture following their recent loss. They are tied with the Patriots and Bengals for the AFC’s sixth seed, but the Jets have ceded the head-to-head tiebreaker to both teams.
