Albert Breer has no doubts Aaron Rodgers will become a New York Jet prior to the draft

In a column posted this morning, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer shared some intel about the Aaron Rodgers saga that New York Jets fans will likely find promising.

Breer says he believes the trade will “certainly” be completed prior to the NFL draft on April 27.

“I think it could happen as early as this week, and certainly will get done before the draft. So have patience, Jets fans—your quarterback is coming.”

As for his reasoning, Breer says he believes the relationship between the Packers and Jets is not as poor as people seem to think. Breer cited the “rapport” between general managers Joe Douglas and Brian Gutekunst from their time coming up as road scouts, as well as the fact that head coaches Robert Saleh and Matt LaFleur are best friends.

Breer also reports there’s “been progress toward hammering out a deal”, which he says is largely since “there’s reason for both sides to be motivated to get this one done.”

Regarding the compensation, Breer guessed the package will include either the 42nd or 43rd pick in the second round of this year’s draft along with another conditional pick or two down the line.

It is sure starting to seem as if the package will look something like that. Earlier this week, Gutekunst admitted that Green Bay does not necessarily need to get a first-round pick in the trade for it to be considered fair compensation.

However the trade package shakes out, all signs are pointing to this saga concluding prior to the NFL draft. Hang in there, Jets faithful.
