Aaron Rodgers spoke about the New York Jets’ Hard Knocks selection, and he was less than happy
Raise the roof: Aaron Rodgers is not exactly thrilled about the New York Jets‘ selection for HBO’s Hard Knocks series during training camp. Perhaps he should have considered that before joining a team that could be compelled to participate.
As Robert Saleh made clear during OTAs, the Jets had no interest in being on Hard Knocks. The fact that the announcement came so close to the opening of training camp likely means that the Jets pushed back hard. The NFL and HBO wanted the Jets to join willingly, but that wasn’t going to happen. Not with Rodgers as the quarterback.
The notoriously anti-media quarterback will now be under even brighter lights. Undoubtedly, there will be as much drama as possible.
Predictably, Rodgers doesn’t like it.
“I understand the appeal with us. There’s a lot of eyes on me, a lot of eyes on our team, a lot of expectations for our squad,” Rodgers told a Bay Area reporter. “They forced it down our throats and we gotta deal with it.”
The only part of the show that Rodgers does like is the man who voices it.
“One of the only things I like about Hard Knocks is the voice of God, who narrates it, Liev [Schreiber],” Rodgers said. “I hope I get to meet him.”
Overall, coach and quarterback are in lockstep on this one. While the cameras can be entertaining for fans and will likely draw more eyes than usual, the Jets don’t really need the distraction. Rodgers is a focused kind of guy, though. Hopefully for the Jets, he can bring accountability and keep any adversity out of the limelight.
